Life Is To Be Lived

Guest Blog: Dr Chong Lee Ai, Paediatric Palliative Care, Hospis Malaysia

Life is to be lived. That’s how Ahmad Nazmi keeps going.

Disabilities do not hinder him from dreaming. Having a life-limiting illness does not stop him from striving to achieve goals and setting new ones. His sister had the same illness and he saw her die as a teenager. She is his inspiration and his parents are his constant support.

Ahmad Nazmi continues to live a normal life, his normal life. He has achieved more than most children at his age. His passion for chess led him to fame and pride for the country.

Paediatric palliative care helps children like him and his family when they are struggling, facilitating as they dream, celebrating with them when things are going well and being present when things don’t. It is always a humbling experience to be part of their lives.

Hospis Malaysia provides palliative care from the community in greater Kuala Lumpur. In Malaysia, more needs to be done to increase awareness and in education of palliative care for children. With Little Stars’ films, awareness on palliative care for children can be highlighted all around the world.
