Hope for the Best, Prepare for the Worst

Guest Blog by Dr Stefan Friedrichsdorf
Pediatric Palliative Care is making sure that children facing a serious illness can live as long as possible, as well possible. While we hope for the best, we prepare for the worst.
Pediatric palliative care specialists have training in management of pain and distressing symptoms and that often makes sure that children live much longer than expected. In this movie we learn about Kali, who as an infant was suffering tremendously from breathlessness… and when we started administering her “a whiff of a splash” of morphine, and slowly increased the dose to a pretty large dose (enough for 4 adults), she stopped being breathless…
Watch Kali’s amazing story, and how the request for palliative sedation for an infant resulted now in a happy 7-year girl.
